To gain strength you should be doing 3×8 to 10 using enough weight so that you can not finish the third set, when you can finish the third set the second time, increase the weight.
This is pretty standard for increasing strength by lifting weights.
You need a high protein meal within 30 minutes to 2 hours after lifting.

What are some good cardio workouts that aren’t so bad on the knees?

Question by Samantha: What are some good cardio workouts that aren’t so bad on the knees?
I was thinking swimming, but I’m not sure. I need to lose weight, not gain muscle, so I figured a cardio workout, but I can’t do running because it’s puts some strain on my knees.

Best answer:

Answer by JIM R
You are 100% right, swimming is the one!

Even better if the water is a little chilly.Your body will turn up the “furnace” to offset the temperture difference.
The fuel for the furnace is body fat!

Go Swimming! and Get Lean!!

How intense should ab workouts be?

Question by JDC: How intense should ab workouts be?
I’ve been trying most of the exercises on the P90X Ab Ripper and while they kill me while I’m actually doing the exercise, I seem to rebound quite quick. I can’t seem to tire my abs out completely like I can my arms. Are you supposed to feel that shaky, completely worn out feeling with every muscle group?

Best answer:

Answer by Josh (elite09G8)
yes the shaking means your using your muscles, a good thing.
No for abs, i never feel anything the but usually the next morning my stomach will feel tight and hurt if i move to fast to the side or get up after sitting down for a few mins, i think that is a bit extreme for every day exercise, idk, maybe that’s to much pushing myself.
that happens if i over do it sometimes. as long as you feel that straining burning feeling, that’s what is helping you push your muscles farther every time.
just do what your comfortable doing

Yes, it’s still OK to work out–you should wait 48 hours between weight lifting workouts. You don’t have to wait between cardio workouts, though.

Anyone have any good ab workouts?

Question by beautyinsimplicity: Anyone have any good ab workouts?
I am in college and I work out regularly (every other day) at a gym. I do a bunch of ab exercises (along with cardio and other weight training, i’m not new at this), but I’m looking for something new that can help me get over the plateau I’m at right now. Any suggestions or websites? Thanks.
I only weigh 110 pounds. I’m not looking to lose weight, just gain muscle.

Answer by Dario A
The key for losing weight is easy – eat less food and workout more often – the difficulties appear when we in reality try to put that into practice! There are plenty of temptations out there aren’t there?! I uncovered some good help by visiting the web portal in the box below, they have plenty of guidance, I shed 7 pounds by following their helpful advice.

Anyone have any ideas of well rounded home workouts to get in shape for a rowing season?

Question by kochavim22: Anyone have any ideas of well rounded home workouts to get in shape for a rowing season?
I don’t want to have to shlep to the Gym because my schedule is not workin with that. It can include any sort of workout or exercise at home…

And also What to eat. I need to cut out my fat intake but i have NO idea how… because I know its mind over matter but my mind is soooooo not feelin it…HELP!

Answer by Lwt. Rower
Hey there! lots of rowers are feeling your pain right now. Now that summer season is over, and now its time for the college crews to do the head races, you have to start to focus on the next season!
What you could do, is not really think of the fat that much right now, and just worry about bulking up, getting stronger, and becoming the fastest you can be!
(unless you’re a lightweight rower like me who is almost over the edge).
So, balanced diet and you’ll be good to go.
For rowing exercises, all i can say is that the best way to train for rowing is to erg, sadly. But! if you can’t do that, then try to have a balanced routine of cardio to keep up that endurance, (like going running, skipping rope, sexy time.) And then supplementing that with 2-3 days of weight lifting, using anything you can! .. If you don’t have any dumbells, then try to do advanced workouts using only your body weight.. There’s tons in YouTube you can find, (this scooby guy has good core and arm workouts).
So, in summary, eat healthy, do cardio to keep your endurance and your heart strong, and try to strive for a strong core, strong back, and any kind of workout that might help. (i.e. chip ups, pull-ups, and tons of situps)Hope this helps!
