Can a person undo cardio work by lifting weights during the same workout?

Question by wyldflwr34: Can a person undo cardio work by lifting weights during the same workout?
I’ve heard it said that a person can undo the good they are doing by a good cardio work out – if they go after that and lift weights…in the same time period. Is that true?

Best answer:

Answer by Nico W
No and yes. You can’t undo the fat loss since weights also make you lose fat
However, cardio deteriorates muscles and weights increase them which negates muscle loss and growth so you’ll stay the same muscle wise that is. Yes you’ll lose fat still

Best answer:

Answer by lestermount
To gain strength you should be doing 3×8 to 10 using enough weight so that you can not finish the third set, when you can finish the third set the second time, increase the weight.
This is pretty standard for increasing strength by lifting weights.
You need a high protein meal within 30 minutes to 2 hours after lifting.

lifting and swimming?

Question by garythepineapple: lifting and swimming?
im a 15 year old guy and a very competitive swimmer. pretty good and strong.but ive never lifted before because i never really needed to. but if i were to start lifting what exercises/routines/weights should i do?

Best answer:

Answer by Agus//..
okay, you need weight lifting? i could help, you will need basics first, so fr 1 week run 30 20 or 10 min a day. Then after that week, start the basics, Abs and push ups, make 3X10 in your first week. Weights, you gotta start with basic weight, that will be 20 on every machine, and 3 on the hand weights. If this doesnt convince you, the best thing you ca do is go to the gym you will start training and ask the trainer for some weight lifting sheet for you age and how many times yu will have to do them
Thats the best, believe me it works for me.

is this a cardio workout or weight lifting workout?

q2: what should i eat after the workout?

i heard for cardio you should eat for at least an hour after the workout

Best answer:

Answer by Caring Breeze
This is mostly a weight lifting workout, but also has some cardio aspects to it. I would eat by hunger cues. If you are hungry start eating until you are not anymore. I hope this is helpful. All the stretches are cardio and anything with weights is not. Good luck!

I don’t think so.

It really depends on how much you weigh, your height and your bmi (body mass index).

Help me get a good lifting routine?

Question by Scott H: Help me get a good lifting routine?
Hey, I’m 17, been lifting off and on for about 3 years, until about a year ago when I started lifting 3 days a week. Heres my question. Right now I do 3 sets of 10 on all my lifts, increasing the weight by 5 or 10 lbs every set. I’m more interested in bulk and overall strength than I am edurance or ripped muscle. Should I be adding more weight and only doing say 4 set of 5 to gain more mass? I’d like to up my max lifts and gain bulk. Also what is a good upper body routine? Right now I do free weight bench, machine chest fly, machine shoulder press, free weight upright rows, machine biceps and triceps, as well as machine row and pull down. Is there anything I should change?

Best answer:

Answer by lucifer723666
You should change quite a few things. First change websites if you really want results and answers to your question.

http://www.cagedanimal.net/index.php

Go check it out. Post in the beginners cage and we can get you set up with a good routine and diet.

Focus on compund exercises for example squats, bench press, deadlifts, and dips to name a few. Are you eating enough food? Why machines and not free weights? Come by http://www.cagedanimal.net/index.php and we will get you set up. It will be well worth your time.

How sore am I supposed to be after hard weight lifting session?

Question by e: How sore am I supposed to be after hard weight lifting session?
Monday- (Chest) -I do butterfly press, bench press, cross over fly, push ups, etc…

Wednesday- (Arms) -numerous types of dumbbell curls (preacher, hammer, turning in) also work Triceps pull downs

Friday- (Shoulders) -Military press, dumbbell sets (Hold to sides, lift to chest, etc…)

I work my butt off every session to the point it’s hard to walk out of the gym on 2 legs, and even though I’m seeing good gains I just don’t feel particularly sore. Can this be normal if you’ve got a really good stretching routine and warm up and cool down properly?

Please don’t include links… This topic gets spammed to hell every time I ask a question about fitness.
I’ve been lifting hard for about 8 months. This particular routine has been about the last 2 months. I’m really getting good results, I’m just confused why I’m not more sore. However, I’ve never been ridiculously sore after a workout since I started lifting… maybe I’m just a genetic freak? Plus I have a home gym so I’m a stretching fool during my workouts since I don’t have to worry about looking stupid at the gym. As for legs, between the elliptical machine I go hard on 4 days a week, and the leg press I do during arm day, my legs are doing alright. I’d rather look like Popeye up top and have chicken legs for the time being until I get to where I want with upper body and can start hammering out the rest of my body.

Well I lift weight too. If you have recently started this workout, then you possibly are working yourself too hard. You should build up the pressure instead of just pushing yourself too much. Are you having a good diet too? How many sessions have you had? I don’t think that it’s abnormal to work out a lot (how much time are you in a session?), because I did a strength session and I was pretty tired, but I was only sore that evening of my session.

Basically, I’m trying to say that you are in a good position, and if you see results and you are getting muscle build up: your fine. Another way to understand your workouts are if you are sweating.
IF you do feel sore, in any way thats fine, you may not get that sore anymore because your body is used to it, but that again, depends when you started your workout schedule. :)

Hope I helped!

What are the benefits of weight lifting for teenagers?

Question by Nick D: What are the benefits of weight lifting for teenagers?
I’m going to buy a pair of dumbbells and a barbell and I’ve got a routine lined up. Here it is

Monday- shoulder, triceps and chest
Tuesday- cardio
Wednesday- legs
Thursday- cardio
Friday- MMA and biceps and back
Saturday- cardio
Sunday- rest day

What are the benefits of this workout.

By the way, is there any website on the internet where you can have a workout written for you and that you can state what sort of equipment you have etc.

Best answer:

Answer by Justin M
Well stay in shape, feel better about your self lots more energy ladies ;) . You get stronger it’s more of an ego thing really but it’s fun takes up time from an unbusy day.

I would recommend not doing shoulders with chest you will greatly regret that, unless you are not really power lifting and just reping things out with low weight.

Can i do cardio and weight lifting on the same day?

Question by John Ho: Can i do cardio and weight lifting on the same day?
I usually work out in the morning and do my cardio (basketball / jogging) in the evening.

My question is, will this routine slow down my muscle growth? Im afraid that i am straining my muscle and not let it rest.
My working schedule is as follow, im working out everyday but dif muscle group each day.

Monday: Chest and Tricep

Tuesday: Back and Bicep

Wednesday: Shoulders, all 3 parts

Thursday: Rest

Friday: Abs and Legs

Saturday: Cardio

Sunday: Rest

Will that strain my muscle or stop its growth?

Best answer:

Answer by EvyChampagne
Sure you can, it is recommened that you strenght train first and then do your cardio right after, if you strenght train your entire body in one day, meaning all of your muscle groups, ie. legs, arms, back, chest, etc. then you should not strenght train the next day but you can still do cardio everyday.

Is my lifting routine effective?

Question by Eric B: Is my lifting routine effective?
I am 17 and I just started to lift weights. I have been lifting for a week and have gone every other day. The first week I did 12 reps and three sets with 40 sec rest in between sets. I switched this week to 10 reps of heavier weight and plan on doing this much weight for 2 weeks and then stepping it up another weight level. I drink whey protein before and after workouts, as well as fruit and carbs to help recover. I drink a lot of water and am sleeping at least 8 hours per night. I also plan on switching from machines to free weights in a month. Comments? Suggestions?
I can’t say how much weight i’m lifting because I do like 10 different machines and they all have different amounts that I can lift. I lift enough so that the last rep or two are pretty tough on each set

Best answer:

Answer by Mark
all of that information is useless unless you say how much weight you are lifting
